Apple Streusel

Fiery Fall is hot out of the oven.

With cinnamon encrusted apples and toasted nutmeg, October’s ensemble is inspired by the legendary Apple Streusel. But with a savory secret 🤫.

From the German word “streuen” meaning “to scatter”, the apple streusel originated in Silesia. Brought to New York by immigrants, it met the crumb cake and found a whole new flakey focus.

Because like Germany, New York State is also famous for its apples. Snapdragons, Rubyfrosts, Empires and Honey Crisps–all sweetest during the harvest season. Bake them with warning spices, a pinch of cider powder and handfuls of crushed biscuits for that disintegrated texture of All-American apple crumble.

And the secret? We added miso paste. But don’t tell anyone!
