Halvah is a crumbly confection tasting like toasted sesame seeds and sweet peanut butter. Pair with chopped figs for May’s Levantine-inspired granola drop—Fig and Halvah.

This month we partnered with Joyva—an iconic halvah-maker from Brooklyn. For over 100 years, Joyva has been handcrafting this old-world sesame treat using its original family recipe.

Because halvah is an ancient delicacy derived from the Arabic word hulw—meaning ‘sweet’. We paired with chopped, seed-filled figs, botanically native to the Middle East, and one of the earliest cultivated fruits on record. I added walnuts, almonds, sesame seeds, a touch of brown sugar and of-course oats. 

 This could perhaps be my most ancient recipe. But I promise we just made it last week.

Ingredients: Rolled Oats, crisped rice, sorghum, almonds, walnut, sesame seeds, halvah, diced fig, maple syrup, honey, canola oil, brown sugar, cinnamon, salt.
